Book displays

What is a book display for?

To grab the attention, or maybe just puzzle…

Sheep – you weren’t expecting that were you…? A herd of sheep on my bookstall is a great way to draw attention to the characters within the book, as well as an entertaining icebreaker. Sheep did threaten to take over for a while, not just the knitting of the sheep, but the conversations they sparked at book signings.

Deckchair – I found early on that a book stand is an invaluable piece on a book display, it creates height, and makes the book cover visible from across a room, even though most people will then pick up a book from the pile of books next to it and not off the stand. And so, why not go a bit further and use a doll’s deckchair? Add a few props and suddenly it’s like a mini shop window display, adding the theme of not forgetting to take your book on holiday.

Basket – placing some books in a display basket puts a focus on a particular book, as well as giving added scope for showing related items to show a little bit of the background of the story, if it’s a true story add some photos.
